What is an OINP EOI score?
An Expression of Interest (EOI) score is a point-based ranking system used by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program to assess and rank candidates in its Workforce Priority Stream draw pool. Candidates with higher scores are prioritized for Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
Is there a minimum OINP EOI score?
There is no fixed minimum score. OINP draws are competitive — the cutoff changes based on the number of eligible candidates in the pool and Ontario's current labour market priorities. A higher score improves your chances of receiving an ITA.
What is considered a competitive score?
Cutoff scores vary by draw and are not published in advance. Generally, maximizing controllable factors — language (CLB 8+), wage, Ontario experience, and location outside the GTA — significantly strengthens a profile. Consult a professional for an assessment of your specific situation.
Can I apply without a job offer?
The Ontario Workforce Priority Stream requires a qualifying job offer. Other OINP streams may have different requirements. A professional consultation can help identify which stream, if any, you may be eligible for without a job offer.
Does my job location affect my score?
Yes. Regionalization is a significant scoring factor. Positions in Northern Ontario receive 15 points, Eastern/Central/Southwestern Ontario receive 10 points, GTA (outside Toronto) receives 5 points, and positions in the City of Toronto receive 0 regionalization points.
Which language tests does the OINP accept?
OINP accepts IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, TEF Canada, and TCF Canada. Academic versions of IELTS are not accepted, nor are "One Skill Retake" results. Verify accepted tests with OINP before registering.
Does my lowest CLB determine my language score?
Yes. Your language points are determined by your lowest CLB result across all four skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. For example, if you score CLB 9 on three skills but CLB 7 on one, your language score is based on CLB 7.
Can I update my EOI after submitting?
OINP policies on updating EOIs may change. Generally, candidates should ensure their profile accurately reflects their current situation. Consult the official OINP website or a professional for current guidance on updating an existing EOI.
Does my EOI score guarantee an invitation?
No. An EOI score does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply. ITAs are issued at Ontario's discretion based on draw cutoffs, labour market needs, and the pool of eligible candidates at the time of the draw.
Does an EOI score mean that I am eligible?
No. Scoring factors and eligibility criteria are separate. You may receive points for a factor while not meeting the overall eligibility requirements of the stream. If you receive an ITA, all claimed points must be substantiated with supporting documentation.
Do I need an ECA?
Foreign educational credentials generally require an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a recognized organization to be claimed for points. Canadian credentials recognized by the OINP may not require an ECA. Verify specific requirements with the OINP or a qualified professional.
